Prof Douglas Wassenaar is a professor in the School of Applied Human Sciences, Discipline of Psychology at UKZN, Pietermaritzburg campus. Although trained as clinical psychologist his research and teaching activities in the past 10-15 years have focused almost exclusively on research ethics. In this regard, he has served as Chair of the UKZN Biomedical Research Ethics Committee and of the SA Human Sciences Research Council’s Research Ethics Committee. He currently holds training grants from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) and has previously held research grants in research ethics from Wellcome Trust, EDCTP, UNAIDS and WHO. He also chairs the KZN Provincial Health and Research Committee.
